The Revised Generic National Artisan Workplace Data, Learner Grant Funding and Administration System Policy requires the artisan learner grant to be calculated annually using the producer price index.
In light of the COVID 19 pandemic and the negative effect it has had on employers’ abilities to continue training, the Department has determined to effect an adjustment on the artisan learner grant. The revised grant amount will relieve employer costs in apprenticeship training and ensure that the country continues to train artisans for the future. Notice is thus given that the artisan learner grant amount for the period 2021 – 2022 is R206 290-00 per new artisan apprentice enrolled. The revised artisan apprentice grant amount is effective as of 1 April 2021. This will allow for a smooth transitional process in the administration of SETA learnership grants and NSF funding.
It is trusted that this revision will assist employers to indenture more artisan learners and that SETAs and the NSF will work closely with the Department to fully meet the requirements of this policy.
